Anna Paquin was born in Winnipeg and raised in Wellington. She began her acting career as Flora McGrath in The romantic-drama film The Piano. Paquin is a Canadian as well as a New Zealand-born actress. Born in Winnipeg however, she was raised in Wellington the city where she was born, she had her first appearance as an actor on screen in The Piano. In this romance film, at the age of 11 years old, Paquin won her second Oscar for Best Actress. Anna Paquin's full name is Anna Helene Paquin. Born on July 24, 1982, at Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, she was the first Canadian birthed New Zealand actress. As as a young girl, she was awarded an Academy Award for best support actress. Her role as the empathetic and curious young girl Holly Hunter played in The Piano (1993) earned her the honor. After she responded to an open call for auditions to play the character, she got it in the role of Flora McGrath, the daughter of a deaf Scottish pianist who relocates into New Zealand in mid-19th-century to marry. The actress was just nine years old and did not have any previous experience as an actor. When she was a teenager, her family moved from Canada and eventually to United States. Paquin made her debut in the midst of her childhood with a role of the Jane Eyre main character in Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre, and then a major part of Fly Away Home. Paquin was a part-time actress in the TV film of 1997 version to Carson McCullers' novel The Member of the Wedding. The actress also played the queen of Spain in Steven Spielberg's Amistad (2007). She played teens on the screen in Hurlyburly (1998), She's All That (1998), A Walk on the Moon (1998) as well as Almost Famous (2000). She also portrayed the groupie Polexia Aphrodisa.
